One of the easiest redecorating projects is that of repainting a room. If your house was made between the 1960s and the 1980s and it has never been redecorated, or the interiors have never been repainted, you most probably have stucco painted ceiling, also called a popcorn ceiling. Popcorn ceiling removal is fairly easy, although there are some things to remember before you attempt to do it. First thing you have to do is to have the popcorn ceiling tested for asbestos. Up to the late 1970's stucco ceilings were made with the use of asbestos fiber both for body or effect, the noise reduction and the fire retardation. However, the use of asbestos was banned around 1978-1979. Houses made before that period usually had asbestos materials. For popcorn ceilings, manufacturers and builders were allowed to make use of their remaining asbestos lined stucco to paint the ceiling. This resulted in some buildings made well into the 1980's being painted and tainted with asbestos.

We Ensure Your Safety

We understand the dangers of asbestos in the household. We know the dangers associated with popcorn ceiling removal, especially when these were made with asbestos. Our tPopcorn Ceiling Removalechnicians at “Drywall Repair Sunland” are well-experienced in drywall repair, tiling, and water damage repair as well. We have the expertise and experience in removing asbestos. We are also experts in stucco ceiling, both in removing popcorn ceilings as well as in putting them on. We also offer painting services which homeowners usually consider when the stucco ceiling has been removed.

Removing paint and textured finish from ceilings and walls is fairly easy, except for the asbestos part. Putting paint back on, after a stucco finish has been removed is not that easy. It is as if you took a back step before the starting point. The reason is that textured paints hide drywall jointing, which are usually just taped affairs. Painters do not usually bother with primer and multiple paint layers or even of sanding before the final coat because the textured paint finish is thick, durable, lasts for years, and do not require an undercoating.

Our staff is trained in removing asbestos. After carefully removing the textured finish, we can begin painting the wall or ceiling in earnest. We would be finishing, sanding, and applying the primer, the first layer of paint before the finishing layer. Drywall Repair Sunland has the skill and expertise to finish your drywall and ceiling, and do the job safely and quickly.
